Renew
We’re preserving old growth forests by using certified FCS, renewable bamboo flooring, veneer and plywood, with 1% of the purchase price donated to environmental organizations.
Reduce
Shakey’s is shedding new light on sustainability by reducing our energy consumption with GE eLightBulbs, which yield 1,000 hours per 60-watt bulb. In 2010, all new Shakey’s restaurants will incorporate LED lighting, as well as remote sensors in the restrooms and manager’s office to further reduce the energy load.
Recycle
We’re milking recyclability to the nth degree by sandblasting the iconic Shakey’s logo on recycled glass from milk bottles.
Old soup cans have been given a second life as recycled pressed tin for party room walls, our bar façade and scattered surfaces throughout the restaurant.
Recycled ceramics and glass bottles have been reincarnated to form the colored glass flooring throughout front counter service area of the restaurant.
Refuse
We’ve ditched a sticky habit by using glue-free adhesive for our carpet system. TacTiles by InterfaceFlor contain no liquid components, virtually eliminating the issue of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). So our guests and employees can breathe a little easier.
We’re doing our part to zero-out greenhouse gases with climate neutral Cool Carpet* by InterfaceFlor. Offsetting GHG emissions helps keep the planet cool and reduce our contribution to global warming.
Reuse
What’s old is new again! Our bar back and game room walls are made from reused and refurbished stained glass windows that were once part of a 70’s era Shakey’s restaurant.
Refuel
Shakey’s is fueling America with Mojo© power – that is used, waste vegetable oil from our fryers. We’ve partnered with a recycling company that systematically collects our used cooking grease and converts it to fuel for use right here in America. Power to the Mojo©!
